    Welcome Norwoodians!

Norwood is a school with a strong community.  Our goal is to help each student be all that they can be; to help them to develop the skills and knowledge so that they can fully participate in and appreciate the cultural, social, political, and economic and aspects of society.

To ensure success for all students, Norwood School provides excellence in instruction of all literacies and takes pride in fostering high levels of wellness in the school and community.

School success is based on the students’ ability to be ready for learning: to be ready to fully engage in the activities and experiences that our amazing teachers prepare each day. Thank you for your support at home to help students be ready for learning each day!

Welcome to the Norwood School Family!

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Norwood School! We are so very excited to have you be a part of our Norwoodian community and are looking forward to getting to know you and your children more as the year progresses.

We had some renovation projects during the summer that have added to the beauty of Norwood. First, we worked on our Outdoor Learning Grounds garden area by adding retaining walls, flower beds, paving stones and turf that will stand the test of our seasons. It looks amazing! Later this fall we will be adding a dedication piece in honour of Mrs. Nicole Carew. We have also had work done in our west stairwell, which is looking so shiny with it’s new coat of paint, and have started the process of setting up a basketball court in the west field. Keep checking the view out there for its completion.

We also have had a few staff additions for the Norwood faculty list for the 2019-2020 school year. For teachers, we are welcoming Ms. Laura Dorward to our Pre-Kindergarten program, Ms. Sarah Wiatr to our grade 1 team, Miss Kayla Matkowski to our grade 3 group and Miss Riplea Lothian as our French and grade 4 teacher. In addition, Ms. Dianne Sieswerda, Ms. Diane Hawthorn, and Ms. Tina Hoult will be joining us as Educational Assistants this year.

School starts at 8:35 AM on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Class lists will be posted on all of the school doors, as well as on a stand by the front stairs. School staff will also be outside to help your child find out what homeroom they are in. Once your child finds their homeroom, we ask that they find the pylon and sign that matches that homeroom, and lines up until the bell rings and their teacher brings them into the school. Any students not on a list will be directed to connect with Mrs. Harvey in the office.

At Norwood school, we are very fortunate to receive large donations of school supplies from the Tools for Schools organization. However, we often run out of items such as glue sticks and Kleenex. If you would like to donate such items to the school, please connect with Mrs. Harvey in the office.

On the first day, we ask that students arrive with their backpack and a pair of indoor running shoes. If you have NOT signed the e4c Nutrition program forms, your child will also need to bring a non-microwavable lunch.

At Norwood School, we are happy to continue to be sponsored through e4c for our snack and lunch program. In order to participate, you MUST complete and return the registration form to the office. Until we have that form, your child will NOT be able to participate in our nutrition program as many of our students have allergies or dietary restrictions. If you have questions please connect with Mrs. Harvey in the office.

Each Monday we meet as a school to welcome the new week, and to celebrate our Nights of Home Reading, student birthdays for the week, and share Norwood Nature Moment of the week. Assemblies start at 8:55 AM, and parents are ALWAYS WELCOME! During the first assembly of the month, we also recognize outstanding citizenship from the previous month.
